At the age of 25, Nathanial had only gotten serious about Rachel and that was in high school. Of course, throughout college he dated somewhat, but no one really held his interest.
As soon as Nathanial turned onto Knollwood Ln his heart started to race. He missed his best friend more than ever. Not seeing her for the past 7 months killed him a little bit inside each time his mind would wander to her. Nate felt as though Adrie couldn't really take care of herself. She had been in and out of the same relationship for the past four years and it worried him. He always assumed she'd end up with someone holding onto as much passion and life as she had, instead she ended up with a deadbeat that spent his life bar tending at the same crappy dive bar for most of his adult life. Not to mention he was 29 years old. Adrie was only 22 and Nate felt as though she was losing herself in a relationship with a man heading into his thirties.
"Hey Stranger!" Adrie's voice was so recognizable. It's as if he saw her everyday. "Hey there," Nate replied as he stepped out of the car. "I've missed you so much! How's the great MSU," she asked as she embraced him in a huge bear hug. "It's great, the whole 'still doing school' thing kind of sucks though, I thought graduate school was supposed to be all prestigious, instead I find myself still drinking each night with the same assholes." Adrie passed him a sarcastic look, which basically read you poor thing. Nathanial opened the door for her and Adrie slid her small frame into the car. Had anyone just glanced at her, they'd think she were an angel. Her hair was the lightest color blond, she had beautiful green eyes, and small features. She had a tiny body with amazing curves. Nate closed her door and ran around the Saab SUV to get into the driver's side.
"So, tell me everything. How's Don? Any women in your life? The family? Gosh it's been forever," Adrie gushed, as Nate messed around with the radio, finally giving in and turning it off completely. "You know, Adrie, it's been seven months since I've seen you, and everything seems to be the same. Don and Tess are still together, she's at our apartment pretty much all of the time." "I mean, it's not a bad thing," Nate added quickly, when Adrie flashed him an oh realllly look. "As for girls, the department is still quite dry, and the family is fine, although I believe Rockie misses you tons, he pretty much salivates when he hears your name." Nate flashed Adrie a sideways grin, and she instantly grabbed his hand. Although it could seem as more to any passerby, Nat and Adrie's relationship was purely platonic. They both knew each other so well, yet were both well aware of the fact that they could never date; their friendship was just too strong for something as trivial as 'dating'.
